I was recently commissioned to create these cartoons for a few different promotional items needed by my friends at Bugle Games. These versions will be making their way to stickers and t-shirts. New art is being created for mugs and tote bags.

Does everyone know I’m moving? Yeah. I’m moving. Not very far, but it’s still moving, so I’ve been distracted. Watch how amazingly well I weather this. If there’s anything you should know about me it’s that things like this don’t bother me. I barely care at all, besides that I’m excited about my new location, and the studio room that I’ve always wanted/finally get. Oh completely. It’s a big deal.

Here’s something I started working on a couple days ago. Tonight I’ll do color, so I’ll post another file when that’s finished. Hope you like it; a print will be made available when the color is complete.

Here’s something I worked up last night from my sketchbook. It’s a character I’ve drawn from time to time since college. Digital ink and color with Gimp 2.4.4.

Here’s something I did on a whim while I was waiting on the ferry boat to Seattle. My favorite aspects are the woman’s bulbous and yet angular anatomy, the rendering of the cheeseburger, and the pretty simple cat at a strange angle. My least favorite aspects are the dense fern fronds (I had to whack away at the 5-pixel outer line in order to make the element visually work with the other less dense things on the page) and the trailer, which nobody recognizes as a trailer even though I swear I’ve seen that very type of trailer a million times when I live in Alabama.

Here’s something I did back in 2005, but I still like it for the most part. Back then I was using Open Canvas instead of Gimp, and a little Photoshop on the side. These days I only use Gimp.

Proud areas for me are the hands and the contact between the generalized hand and the boot, the twist of the torso, and the paint application. Unfortunate areas include the collar and what it does to the attachment between torso and head, and also the aggressive highlight on that dumb ear. I wish I hadn’t done it like that.

The palette is neat to me; it’s a strange combination of my usually separate rustic, earthy hues and my florescent 90s go go boy colors.

I’m listening to The Nolans a lot as of… now. As of today. As for a couple hours ago, I’m listening to the Nolans. They go really well with that EP from Black Kids (who I similarly adore, only more so). Read More

Passive aggresive MySpace status updates, I suppose are my topic, though I’m also including hyper-emotional ones. I should have taken some screenshots this morning, because they’re funnier in context, but my mouse finger is quick when it comes to checking that little ’delete friend’ box — not so much with an actual friend, but infinitely so when I can’t remember who the hell the person is, and their avatar is a tight, flash photo of their not-so-great face in a pout, and the status is something like: “Kenny has been hurt by the selfishness of others.”
